Prospect Council Commits to Water Rebates

The State Government and the Prospect Council are to be commended for their initiative in providing water savings incentives to their tax payers and ratepayers.
The PIA understands there are other councils considering similar schemes and that meaningful rebates from government are the only way that significant water saving measures will be adopted by the majority of property owners and any initiative that contributes to improving water savings is to be applauded.

Water Efficiency Incentive Scheme

The City of Prospect is currently offering a range of financial incentives to encourage property owners and/or occupiers to implement various water conservation measures which aim to reduce the usage of mains water.
The incentives cover rainwater tanks, dual flush toilet cisterns and water efficient showerheads.
Applications are now being accepted until the program funding is expended. Conditions apply.

Available incentives and eligibility

The following incentives are available to all City of Prospect residents, property owners, businesses, clubs and institutions for the purchase and installation of the following water conservation devices on properties in the Prospect Council area.

$300 for a new rainwater tank of 2,000 litres minimum capacity, connected to a roof area of at least 100m2 and plumbed into at least two internal fixtures (toilet, hot water service or washing machine).

$100 for a new rainwater tank of 1,000 litres minimum capacity, connected to a roof area of at least 50m2 and plumbed into at least one internal fixture (toilet, hot water service or washing machine).

$200 for the replacement of single flush toilet cistern with a dual flush cistern.

100% of the purchase cost (up to $50 maximum) for the replacement of a conventional showerhead with a water efficient (3-star rated) shower head.

Applicants must hand in the old showerhead in order to receive the showerhead incentive.

The $100 rainwater tank incentive is not available for residential properties where the installation of the rainwater tank is mandated under Building Regulations.

This includes mandatory tanks required for new homes and significant home extensions.

Many residents will also be able to access the $400 grants on offer from SA Water for plumbing a rainwater tank into their home.

Eco Smart Plumbers can play an important role in supporting this initiative by providing professional advice on the best showerheads to fit based on the type of hot water service used and ensuring residents upgrade the pan as well as the cistern.
