Hot Water Services
New requirements will come into effect from 1 July 2006 for hot water services being installed in areas of South Australia serviced by reticulated gas.
The requirements apply to new houses, and alterations and additions involving augmentation of a hot water service, and are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with water heaters in housing.
What types of water heater are acceptable after 1 July?
Where can I find out about the star ratings for each model of gas water heater?
What performance standard do these heaters have to meet?
- Either 2.6 tonnes or 1.5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year (CO2e/yr), depending on the size of the water heater
- Details of the new technical requirements can be found in the South Australian variations to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the South Australian Housing Code (SAHC).
Where can I find out about the number of Renewable Energy Certificates for each model of solar or heat pump water heater?
- This information is available in Schedule 7 Part 2 of the (Commonwealth) Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001, which is available through this link to the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator
How can I find out if reticulated gas is available adjacent to a property?
By calling the Envestra Natural Gas connection Hotline 1300 001 001
